I adopted a dog!

Well, my family did. We got him about three weeks ago. His official name is Carignan, but because it was so long we decided to call him "Corcho". We chose that name for three main reasons, first of all because it sounded great and was short enough to get the dog's attention. Secondly, because "Corcho" in Spanish (my first language), means cork and my dad loves wine, we even have a special storage room in the house just for his wine bottles! The last reason is because when my father was in high school, his nickname was "Corcho" and he didn't like it at all. So when he entered collage he thought the nickname would go away, but it didn't. And even till this day, some of his friends call him "Corcho".

The breed is weimaraner. They are easy to train and behave very well as guard dogs. They are loving, intelligent and also really obedient. Being a very active breed, you need to do a lot of exercise, it is recommended at least forty minutes of exercise, unlike other breeds that require just a walk around the block. That's the main reason we chose that breed. My dad loves biking, and he wanted the dog to be able to keep up with him on his road trips. He is around ten weeks old. He lives on my dad's old gym, wich we have put his bed, his water and food and made it his living space. Twice a week, comes a trainer and teaches us new tricks for him. Like "Sit!" or "Down", sometimes I try to teach him tricks of my own, like a kiss on the cheek or "play dead".

My experience with him has been like a rollercoaster. The first few days I loved him, I thought he was the cutest thing in the world, he couldn't even stand on his own little legs. It excited me so much, he looked so clumsy and scared. But then, the responsibilities came, that includes picking up the poop, training him to poop on specific spaces, giving him the certain amount of food on a certain time, brushing his teeth, washing his body, playing with him and a lot more chores that I won't mention right now. It started to stress me out, even though I have three other sisters that shared all these duties with me, it felt like all the pressure was on my shoulders. Besides, at that moment I didn't have the privileges of walking him and taking him to the park. Wich depressed me because I felt like he didn't love me either, or wasn't being loving to me.

After around ten days, I started to get the hang of it. We created a calendar were we took turns on the different tasks, wich was definitely brilliant. I could finally play with him because I knew how to control him, just remember, the key to a dog's heart is food and love. His favorite toy is a doll we got from Chuck E Cheese's, that today he has officially destroyed. Most of the filling is out and the toy is completely wrecked, I'll have to buy one later. Today he got his vaccination, at first he was hysterical, but at the end we got him to calm down. Today we also tried to put his collar on, he didn't like it at all. To finish off this long entry, I must say that now, I really do enjoy having a dog, and I can't wait for him to be old enough to go to the park!
